Indoor BBQ Korean Style

A popular way to eat Korean food is with the indoor BBQ. A selection of raw meats is delivered to the table and grilled by the diners on a grill in the middle of their table. The meat will be accompanied by vegetables, peppers and side dishes with dipping sauce.

The best kind of grill (for the flavor) will use charcoal but others use gas (LPG) for the convenience of cleaning the grill later.

Don’t worry about smoke filling up the dining area, this is taken care of by vent hoods over the grills.

Most of the common meats that you expect such as chicken, pork and beef are available together with a favorite of meat-eating Korean’s: offal. For example, the cattle’s small intestine and parts of a pig. So the Korean restaurant can provide you with some culinary challenges.

You can order a set (selection) of meats to try. In the Korean Restaurant Kanazawa in Ishikawa prefecture, Japan , they have Japanese beef together with Aussie beef. Japanese beef tends to be fatty where Aussie beef is more lean. And , the pork will tend to be very fatty.

The hot grill will quickly cook the thin slices of meat so you need to pay careful attention as to when to turn it over to avoid burning the meat. This is even more important when grilling vegetables such as green pepper.

If you are a westerner, this will challenge your use of chopsticks too. But combined with a few beers and good company, it should all be an enjoyable experience.

Vegetarians may have some trouble meeting their needs in a grilling meat restaurant, but there should be some vegetarian offerings available such as soups. But what out for a meat base being used for the soup.

Some main dishes alongside the grill will include soup, and Kimchi (pickled spicy vegetables).

And there are many traditional Korean drinks available such as beers, tea, rice wine and spirits.
